Onshore & Offshore Operations

offshore onshore

Offshore oil and gas wells are drilled from a platform equipped with all drilling equipment, storage areas and staff housing. Some drilling platforms stand on stilted legs embedded in the seafloor. Floating platforms are used for drilling in deeper waters, including water depths of 10,000 feet or more. These self-propelled ships are connected to the seabed by large cables and anchors. After drilling and completing the well on these platforms, the production equipment was lowered to the seafloor.

Offshore oil and gas producers must take preventive measures to prevent pollution, leakage and major changes in the marine environment. Offshore drilling platforms are designed to withstand hurricanes. When offshore oil and gas wells no longer have sufficient production capacity to be economical, they will be sealed and abandoned in accordance with applicable regulations.

Onshore Oil exploration, which are Oil wells on land, on the other hand present present a relatively lesser potential for environmental damage. Notwithstanding, they still present risks like leakage if measures are not put in place to address identified threats to the environment.
